Obituary

Gretna.…..Louise Bryant Toney, age 99 of Gretna formerly of Climax died Monday, May 22, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born March 22, 1918 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Dudley Bryant and Nannie Bolling Bryant. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-eight years, James Berkley Toney; a son, J. Kenny Toney; one sister, Hazel Shelhorse; and four brothers, Nelson Bryant, Carroll Bryant, Melvin Bryant and Dr. Beauford Bryant. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. Mrs. Toney was a lifetime member of Green Bay Christian Church where she played the piano and organ from the age of fourteen. She attended Danville Community College and was the last survivor of Climax High School Class of 1935. Louise was proprietor of Climax Service Station, Toney's Self Service and retired from Dupont. Mrs. Toney was a Charter member of the Climax Ruritan Club after women were allowed to be admitted and was a past member of the Gretna Lions Club. Louise enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean. Among her many passions in life were sewing, oil painting, gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking; and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma T. Burwell of Gretna; daughter-in-law, Debbie Toney of Gretna; five grandchildren, Anita Burwell Shoaf and husband, Paul of Columbus, Ohio, Lori Burwell Webster of Richmond, James "Jay" Burwell of Gretna, Adam Toney of Gretna and Daniel Toney of Los Angeles, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Makayla Denise Webster and Caroline Louise Shoaf.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Green Bay Christian Church by Lee Ashley, Minister and Frank Fuller, Minister. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
