Gretna……….Louise Doss Irby, age 73, of 541 Sycamore Rd., Gretna died Sunday May 15, 2011 at her residence.
Born Oct. 9 1937, in the Mt. Airy community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late George W. Doss, Sr. and the late Sallie McDaniel Doss. She was married to Gordon Richard "Doodie" Irby on July 2, 1956 who survives at the residence.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers George W. Doss, Jr., Henry T. Doss and Hilton O. Doss and a sister, Nannie D. Epperson. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was formerly employed as a card representative for American Greeting Cards and was a sales representative for Avon.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Randal K. Irby and wife, Charlotte; two grandsons, Randal Scott Irby and wife, Ruth Ann, Ryan Keith Irby and wife, Reshelle, all of Gretna and two great-grandsons, Logan Gage and Jeremiah Franklin. She is also survived by two sisters, Flossie D. Houston of Lynchburg, Annette D. McGregor of Java, a brother James "Mack" Doss of Mt. Hermon, and a sister-in-law Shirley McDaniel of Hurt, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many cherished friends who loved her.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Chapel with the Rev. Gary Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 16 from 7 to 8 p.m., and other times will be at the residence.
