Chatham...........Lottie Compton Motley, age 92 of 2912 Payneton Road, Chatham died Monday, March 11, 2013 at her residence.
Born April 29, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie Luther Compton and Drusilla Haynes Compton. Mrs. Motley was predeceased by her husband Rawley Douglas (R.D.) Motley, four brothers, Joel Compton, Thurman Compton, Earl Compton and Luther Compton; and a son-in-law, Jim Hamner, Jr. She was a member of Sheva Church of Christ where she served as a youth Sunday School teacher and as the ladies Sunday School Teacher where she served as Treasurer for many years. She also was active in the V.B.S. at Sheva. Mrs. Motley was a home maker who enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, working with flowers and watching the birds play.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Motley Hamner of Chatham; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Sheva Church of Christ by Chris Stanley, Minister and Larry Owen, Minister. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Motley will be carried to Sheva Church of Christ on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8p.m. and other times will be at the residence.
