Obituary

Linda Bowling Laney, 63, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017, after a short battle with cancer. She leaves behind her son, Jim Laney Jr. and his wife, Mary Beth; her daughter, Jennifer Fogle and her husband Jace; her daughter, Jodi Dowdy and her husband, Aaron; her father, Harold Bowling; her sister, Tamara Adams and her husband, Barton; her brother, Terry Bowling and his wife, Sue; five granddaughters, Julia, Sarah, Alexis, Lily, and Mattie; and two grandsons, Aiden and Jackson. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Laney, Sr.; her mother, Gladys Bowling; and her brother, Larry Bowling.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, she dedicated her life to caring for her family. She enjoyed watching sports with her father and helping with all of her grandkids. More recently, she enjoyed spending time at Topsail Beach searching for shark teeth with her family. She worked as a registered nurse until having her three children when she decided to devote herself fulltime to being a mother. She was a dedicated servant as the bookkeeper and nurse at Faith Christian Academy where she worked for the last 19 years and was a devoted volunteer since 1990 when her children began attending. She faithfully attended Blue Ridge Community Church in New London.
She was skilled in her job, but her greatest ministry was one of encouragement to others. She had a servant's heart and a love for God and people. Her faithfulness and dedication was an inspiration to all. She wrote incredible notes of encouragement and exhibited love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness daily. Her character and example cannot be replaced, but hopefully will be one to emulate. She was a dedicated Christ follower, devoted wife, a loving and caring mom, dedicated co-laborer, and a faithful friend who will be greatly missed.
