Chatham………Colden Leon Rowland, age 86 of Chatham died Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart.

Born May 7, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Cyril Jacob Rowland and Viola Jacobs Rowland.  He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley McDaniel Rowland; one daughter, Donna Ann Rowland; one granddaughter, Angelica Rowland; one brother, Carlton Rowland.  Mr. Rowland was a member of Mill Creek Community Church and he retired from Dan River Mills.  He loved birdwatching and woodworking.

He is survived by one son, Robert Rowland of Milton, NC; two daughters, Debra Purvis of Milton, NC and Amanda Richardson and husband, Hugh of Ringgold; one brother, Harold "Fuzzy" Rowland and wife, Brenda; two sisters, Terecia Hamlett and Janet Bailey and husband, Charles; three grandchildren, Robert Rowland II and wife, Trinity, Joshua Rowland and Dakota Henry and husband, Clifton.; and seven great-grandchildren; Joseph Nadeau, Josey Nadeau, Jace Rowland, Kaleigh Matherly, Kaleb Matherly, Jazlyn Henry and Landon Henry.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Hillcrest Burial Park by Rev. Ryan Call.  Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232, P.O. Box 153, Altavista, VA 24517.
