Hurt……….Cager Lee Rowland, age 88 of 5713 Blue Ridge Drive, Hurt died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born January 25, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late John (Tack) Carrington Rowland and Lottie Shelton Rowland. Mr. Rowland was predeceased by his wife, Othelia Rowland Rowland; three brothers, Perry Rowland, John Rowland, and Willard Rowland; and two sisters, Thenie Smith, and Elvin Midkiff. He was a member and former Deacon of Midway Baptist Church, and a Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Rowland was the owner of Gretna Barber Shop for over 40 years, and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Hudspeth and her husband, Bob of Winston-Salem, NC, and Joy Snyder and her husband Dave of South Boston; one brother, Frank Rowland of Lynchburg; two sisters, Delma Hershman of Gretna, and Agnes Johnson of Forest; two grandchildren, Andrew Snyder, and Kelly Snyder; two step-grandchildren, Rob Hudspeth and his wife, Erika, and David Hudspeth and his wife, Julie; and two step-great-grandchildren, Emma Hudspeth, and Jackson Hudspeth.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard, Honor Guard will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
The family would like to give a special thanks to caregivers, Doris Adams, Mary Oakes, Delores Taylor, and the entire staff at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
