Long Island……….Lawson Franklin King, age 81 of Long Island died Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born July 3, 1943 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Willie Lee King and Annie Burks King.  He was predeceased by one sister, Catherine Cullop.  Mr. King attended Cody Church of God of Prophecy and he retired from the Lane Company.  Mr. King was a hard worker and enjoyed helping others.  He loved being outside, piddling with his junk and working on vehicles.

He is survived by his wife, Viola Virginia Dunkley of the residence; two daughters, Betty Peade and husband, Barry of South Boston and Jeanette Greer and husband, Jason of Evington; one son, James King of Altavista; seven step-children, Larry, Donald, Katherine, Barbara, Linda, Frank and Tammy; one brother, Herbert King and wife, Delores of Rustburg; three sisters, Betty Miller of Hurt, Ruby Childress of Long Island and Rosa Taylor of Gretna; six grandchildren, Kelsey, Dillion, John, Justin, Destiny and Courtney; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Wilder; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the King Family Cemetery by Pastor Donald Shields.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
