Gretna…….Lanier Hale Mayhew, age 85 of 31113 US Highway 29, Gretna died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at his residence.
Born December 31, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late George Calvin Mayhew and Myrtle Shelton Mayhew. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorene Bailess Mayhew; and two sisters, Hazel Rowland and Barbara Bowler. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, and a truck driver for Central Oil. Mr. Mayhew was a Navy Veteran of World War II, and a member of the VFW. He had a passion for blue grass music, and enjoyed Facebook.
He is survived by a son, Chris Mayhew and wife, Penny of Mechanicsville; two daughters, Dee Pierce of Ahoskie, NC, and Cindy Beard and husband, Billy of Evington; two brothers, Stover (Poky) Mayhew of Gretna, and Reed Mayhew of Gretna; one sister, Marge Younger of Gretna; four grandchildren, Jason Roberts and wife Missy, Chad Mayhew and wife, Samantha, Zachary Mayhew and wife, Bonnie, and Nathan Pierce and wife, Kim; three great-grandchildren, Jonathon Tucker and wife, Jessie; Areial Williams, and Collin Mayhew; and one great-great-grandchild, Kenleigh Jo Tucker.
Graveside services with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by the Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
