Kenyon Gibson Scott, age 53, of Ray, Virginia, died at home on Friday, April 12, 2024. He was born in Danville, Virginia, on November 4, 1970, the son of Larry Wayne Scott and Jacqueline Gibson Scott. He grew up in Pittsylvania County and attended Gretna High School. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in Administration.

Kenyon was a former history teacher and high school principal and was in his twenty-eighth year of employment with Pittsylvania County Schools where he served as the Assistant Superintendent for Operations. He was an avid collector of vintage cars and held a particular interest in pre-war Fords and Chevrolet Corvairs. Kenyon began the study of music at the age of five and accepted his first church organist position at the age of fourteen. Church music became a life-long avocation, and he was currently serving as Organist and Choirmaster at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chatham and at Trinity Episcopal Church in Gretna.

A compass of trust, honor, and patience, Kenyon was a peace-making, caring, and wise man to all of his many roles; however, he was devoted perhaps most of all to his role as a father to his two children who cherish the indescribable person he was. Kenyon had the magical ability to instill many of his honorable qualities and morals in his son and daughter; there is great comfort in knowing that his legacy will forever carry on through his dear family. All who knew Kenyon understand that he was a problem-solver and had the gift to find a solution to any issue that he encountered. In the midst of grief, the family knows that he would be a calming anchor. His quick wit, steady mind, and loyalty to what sincerely mattered to him will be remembered by his beloved family. Kenyon was a true Virginian who did not seek extravagance or power; his wish was that others would succeed and live in peace.

Kenyon is survived by his wife, Kara Adcock Scott, and his children, John Cooper Scott and Julia Rebekah Scott; his parents, Larry Wayne Scott and Jacqueline Gibson Scott; his sister, Sonja Renee Scott; his aunt, Pamela G. Salony (Mike); his first cousin, Kristin K. Keesee (DuAnn); his mother and father-in-law, Margaret C. and Gerald C. Adcock; his brothers-in-law, Christopher D. Adcock (Kelly) and Michael C. Adcock; his nephew, Jackson M. Adcock; and his beloved English Cocker Spaniel, Harry.

A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers
