Java……...Kathy Thomas Sawyer, age 67 of Java died Friday, September 1, 2023 at her residence.

Born June 11, 1956 in Kingsport, TN, she was a daughter of the late Harold Thomas and Marjorie Cox Thomas.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Jeff Thomas, and her twin brother, Jimmy Thomas.  Mrs. Sawyer was a member of Zion Chapel.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her beloved dog, "Trudy."

She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Sawyer of the residence; one son, William "Bill" Thomas Sawyer of Johnson City, TN; one daughter, Amanda "Mandy" Moser of Java; one brother, Michael Thomas and wife, Tracie of Johnson City, TN; two sisters, Hope Boyce of Greensboro, NC, and Vickie Julian and husband, Paul of Fairview, TN; two grandchildren, Hunter Moser, and Calley Moser; four sisters-in-law, Becky Hooks and husband, Raymond, Jane Thomas, Betty Sandhagen and husband, Ray, and Ann Sawyer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Zion Chapel by Pastor David Wheeler.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Zion Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Zion Chapel, in care of Susan Scott, 23256 U.S. Highway 29, Gretna, VA 24557 or to the Riceville-Java  Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 129, Java, VA 24565.
