Gretna……….James William "J.W." Thompson, Jr., age 69 of Gretna died Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born November 8, 1950, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late James William Thompson, Sr. and Julia Catherine Brooks Thompson.  Mr. Thompson retired from Klopman Mills and he drove a truck for Watts Petroleum.  He enjoyed going to races at South Boston Speedway, and he loved his dog, "Bud."

He is survived by one brother, Bill Thompson and wife, Teresa of Lynchburg; one sister, Peggy Clay and husband, Herbert of Gretna; a niece, Kimberly McKeldin and husband, Nathan of Stafford; a nephew, Jason Clay and wife, Stephanie of Atlantic Beach, FL; two great-nieces, Abigail McKeldin and Charlotte Clay; and one great-nephew, Cooper Clay.

Private graveside services will be conducted at Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Randy Foster.
