Judson Pickral

Gretna......Judson Ballard Pickral, age 79, of Gretna passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at his residence.
Born August 20, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Harry E. Pickral and Margaret Mills Pickral. Mr. Pickral was predeceased by a brother, Edgar Pickral, a grandson, Christopher Harmon, a son-in-law, Barry Harmon; a nephew, Glenn Pickral; and a sister-in-law, Esterlyne Pickral. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 873, Greenfield Chapter. Along with his brother, Edgar, he owned and operated Pickral Brothers Construction and was employed for 44 years by Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and Miller Funeral Home. Mr. Pickral was an avid NASCAR fan.
He is survived by one son, Victor Pickral and wife, Angie of Gretna; one daughter, Daphne Harmon of Welcome, NC; five brothers, Oscar Pickral and wife, Nellie of Gretna, Charlie Pickral of Gretna, Gerald Pickral and wife, Nancy O. of Chatham, Bobby Pickral and wife, Patsy of Chatham and Reuben Pickral and wife, Jackie of Chatham; three sisters, Betty Rowles and husband, Larry of Gretna, Rebecca Shelton and husband, Melvin of Gretna, and Shirley Shelton and husband, Jack of Gretna; 3 grandchildren, Teenia Harmon of Welcome, NC, Justin Pickral and wife, Kathy of Charlottesville, and Travis Pickral of Gretna; a sister-in-law, Nancy Y. Pickral; and a devoted partner and caretaker Janice Arnold of Gretna.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 12, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Elder Raymond Goad, and Rev. Rick Lancaster. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 12, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence of Victor and Angie Pickral, 111 South Music Street, Gretna, and at the residence of Janice Arnold, 107 North Music Street, Gretna.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to VFW Post 873 Greenfield Chapter, c/o Carroll L. Davidson, P.O. Box 325 Gretna, VA 24557.
