Martinsville…….Juanita Alice Barker Franklin, age 88 of 804 York Street, Martinsville died Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
Born June 10, 1925 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Berkley D. Barker and Emma Bernice Howell Barker. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry O. Franklin; a son Richard (Donnie) Donald Franklin; two brothers, Curtis Barker and Robert Edward Barker; and three sisters, Virginia Brumfield, Hilda Wilson, and Betty Hines. Mrs. Franklin was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church; and was a home maker and care giver. She dedicated her life to taking care of handicapped son Donnie for 66 years. Mrs. Franklin was a former Cub Scout leader and was active in the PTA when her children were in school.
She is survived by two sons, Timothy W. Franklin and his wife, Bonnie of Christiansburg, and Jeffery D. Franklin and his wife, Susan of Martinsville; six sisters, Trula Clark of Martinsville, Martha Doss of Gretna, Nellie Pickral of Gretna, Frances Barker of Gretna, Elaine Clark of Martinsville, and Carolyn Goad of Gretna; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Dr. G.H. Vaughan. Burial will follow in the Plymale Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
