Joyce Cannaday Shaffer of Penhook, VA passed away unexpectedly on April 6, 2020.  Joyce was born in Eden, NC and was preceded in death by her parents, James A. Cannaday and Betty Riddle Cannaday; a daughter, Alicia Pace Riddle; and a grandchild, Nathan.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Michael J. Shaffer of Penhook; her children, Michele Pace Mullis and husband, Scott of Greenville, NC, William F. Pace of Eden, NC, Amanda Shaffer Shelton and husband, George of Greensboro, NC; M. Andrew Shaffer and wife, Suzanne of Browns Summit NC; a son-in-law, M. Scott Riddle of Greensboro, NC; as well as 13 grandchildren, Anna, Zandy, Ivy, Kinley, Elizabeth, Katherine, Ben, Charlotte, Shaffer, Addie, Mason, Nolan and Sinclair.

Joyce was the Matriarch of our family and will always be revered and missed by us all.  She worked as a Personal Banker with Wachovia and opened her own gift and craft shop making handmade baskets and stained-glass pieces.  She was an award-winning consultant with Doncaster Clothing and Vemma Nutrition.

Her first love was always her family and she loved nurturing and providing for them all.  Joyce was a gourmet cook, a classic entertainer, and enjoyed trip planning.  We enjoyed some wonderful trips in our time together.

Due to the Corona Virus arrangements are pending and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
