Gretna……Joyce Mahan Crider, age 79 of Gretna died Monday, January 9, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born April 10, 1943 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Virginia Blair Mahan of Gretna and the late John Ray Mahan. She was predeceased by a grandchild, Kevin Andrew Crider; a brother, Otis Melvin Mahan and a brother-in-law, M.E. "Pat" Mease. Mrs. Crider graduated from Climax High School in 1961 and worked in the tobacco fields on her family's farm for many decades.  She was a full-time mother and retired from AAA.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Thomas Gaumes of the residence; one son, Kevin Andre Crider and wife, Jennifer of Forest; one step-son, Justin Thomas Gaumes  and wife, Jennifer of Maryville, TN; one brother, Oscar Leland Mahan and wife, Cecilia of Leesburg; one sister, Janet Mahan Mease of Sandy Level; three grandchildren, Lt. Matthew Brandon Crider, USN and wife, Allie of Hanford, CA, Sarah Joyce Crider of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Julia Blair Crider of Forest;  mother-in-law, JoAnn Mackey Gaumes of Gouverneur, NY; step-granddaughter, Jenna Gaumes; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Lynn Marstin and Doug Craddock.  Burial will follow Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Andre Crider and wife, Jennifer.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gretna Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557.
