Gretna……….Josephine Jones Hammock, age 87 of Gretna died Thursday, August 1, 2024 at her residence.

Born April 19, 1937 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Brice Jones and Flossie Millner Jones Denton.  She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Junior Hammock; and one sister, Carolyn Moss.  Mrs. Hammock was a member of Cody Church of God of Prophecy and she was a home maker.  Mrs. Hammock was always willing to help anyone in need and enjoyed volunteering at thrift stores and going to church.

She is survived by three sons, Brice Hammock of Gretna, Michael Hammock of Gretna and Ryan Hammock of Lynchburg; two daughters, Deborah Hamlett and husband, Howard of Phenix and Wanda Coleman of Forest; nine grandchildren, Anthony Hamlett, Travis Hamlett, Rachel Hamlett, Ethan Hammock, Darlene Hammock, Benjamin Hammock, Dixie Hammock, Miranda Coleman and Johnny Coleman; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Cody Church of God of Prophecy by Rev. Dwayne Hammock and Rev. Ava Mitchell.  Burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Cody Church of God of Prophecy.
