J.C. Oakes, Jr.

Danville.........Joseph Cullen (J.C.) Oakes, Jr., age 76 of 125 Pinecroft Circle, Danville, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born August 1, 1934 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late Joseph Cullen Oakes, Sr. and Blanche Crews Oakes. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph C. (Jay) Oakes III, and a sister, Connie McDowell. He was an US Army veteran and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, and the Gretna Jaycees. Mr. Oakes enjoyed hunting, raising horses, cooking stews, and barbecues. He was a former owner of Ward Springs and 5 Oakes restaurants.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Harper and husband Steve of Carlisle, PA, and Lori Ricketts and husband Donald of Danville; four sisters, Clara Lloyd, Evelyn Webb, Martha Webb, and Peggy Womack; two grandchildren, Joseph McGhee and wife, Misty of Callands, and Hannah Ricketts of Danville; and one great-grandchild, Jaxon McGhee.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Elder Dan Parker. Burial will follow in Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday November 7, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
