Sandy Level……John "Poss" Elbert Jefferson, Sr., age 84 of Sandy Level died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Gretna Health & Rehab Center.
Born May 6, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Montie H. Jefferson and Doris Robertson Jefferson. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Burton Jefferson; a son, John Elbert Jefferson, Jr.; an infant daughter; two brothers, Letcher Jefferson and Grover Jefferson; and two sisters, Jenell Jefferson and Inis Jefferson Towler. He was a member and former Deacon of Sandy Level Baptist Church. Mr. Jefferson was a former employee of Klopman and also worked as a carpenter. Poss enjoyed playing ball and horseback riding.
He is survived by one step-son, Jerry Dawson of Hurt; one step- daughter, Shelby D. Slaughter and husband, Frank of Walterboro, SC; one brother, Darrell Jefferson and Mary Lou of Pittsville; one sister, Linda Brumfield of Gretna; three grandchildren, Sabrina Dawson Falls, Jennifer Smart and Jamie Harris; and a number of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Sandy Level Baptist Church by Pastor Kendell Smith and Rev. R.G. Rowland. A private burial will be held in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Sandy Level Baptist Church.
