John Irving Crews of Long Island, VA, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born July 18, 1932, he was a son of the late William A. Crews and Lillian A. Crews.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, James Crews of Long Island, and Ronald Crews of Long Island.

John worked and retired from Burlington Transportation of Madison Heights after 34 years of service.  He proudly served in the Army and fought in the Korean War.  He was as member of Clover Bottom Baptist Church in Nathalie.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Betty R. Crews of the residence; one son, Randy L. Crews and wife, Debbie of Long Island; one grandson, Brad L. Crews and wife, Jennifer of Long Island; one granddaughter, Hollie M. Crews of Long Island; two great-granddaughters, Savannah Crews and Sydney Crews both of Long Island; three brothers-in-law, J.B. Roberts and wife, Sandra, Jerry Roberts and wife, Cynthia, and Michael Roberts and wife, Debbie all of Danville; two sisters-in-law, Shirley R. Parker and husband, Tyrone of Ocala, FL, and Jane A. Crews of Long Island; four nephews, Kevin Parker and wife, Monica of Iowa, Wayne Crews of Long Island, Barry Roberts of Danville, and Brian Roberts of Waynesboro; four nieces, Kecia Ballantyne and husband, Chris of Michigan, Stacey McCormick of Danville, Kelly Hodges of North Carolina, and Jenny Hudson of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Altavista Memorial Park by Pastor Josh Crews.  Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.  Entombment will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.  For safety reasons the family request that only immediate family attend the service.
