Gretna……….John Wayne Cardwell, age 73 of Gretna passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Blue Ridge Health and Rehab of Martinsville.

Born July 4, 1952 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Claude Cecil Cardwell and Rebecca Layne Cardwell.  He was predeceased by a brother, Cecil Cardwell.  Mr. Cardwell was the former owner/operator of Cody Store and was a member of the Masons Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M.

He is survived by two nieces, Pam C. Johnson and husband, Steve of Charlottesville and Kelly C. Nuckols and husband, Chuck of Cary, NC; two great-nieces, Allison Nuckols and Abby Reiter and husband Jason and two great-nephews, Tyler Johnson and wife, Bailey and Hunter Johnson.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church Cemetery by Randy Parker, Minister.
