Rev. John Peter Belderes' Obituary
Pittsville…..Reverend John Peter Belderes, age 91 of Pittsville was called home by his Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 14, 2014.
Born November 23, 1923 he was a son of the late Michael Peter Belderes and Katherine England Belderes. Rev. Belderes was raised in Liberty, West Virginia. He graduated from Morgantown High School and then entered the University of West Virginia hoping to study law. Then World War II broke out and he enlisted in the infantry where with his ROTC training he advanced quickly, rising to Platoon Sgt. He fought during the Battle of the Bulge, receiving a bronze star and a battlefield commission to 2nd Lt. After returning home Rev. Belderes married Arlene Barker of Brights and they moved to Florida where they raised their family. Rev. Belderes was called into the Ministry at the age of 50. He pastored Summersett Baptist Church, Six–Mile Creek Baptist Church in Tampa and Round Pond Baptist Church. He also did much interim ministry among the churches in the area and preached at many of the churches in the area. Rev. Belderes was a Gideon for many years; and enjoyed painting and writing and reading poetry. He was a friend to everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Arlene Barker Belderes of the residence; three sons, Michael Grover Belderes and his wife, Reba of Pittsville, John Belderes, Jr. and his wife, Anne of Orlando, FL, and Dennis Ray Belderes and his wife, Sue Ann of Jeffersonville, IN; one daughter, JoAnn Holley and her husband, Wayne of Danville; 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 19, 2014 at Summersett Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Andrews. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
