Hurt……Joseph Merriman Arthur, Sr., age 78 of Hurt died Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his residence.

Born September 18, 1940, he was a son of the late Roystain Merriman Arthur, Jr. and Irene Arthur.  Mr. Arthur was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Hurt and was a retired electrician with BGF.  He enjoyed riding and showing horses; and fly fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife Shelvia Foster Arthur of the residence; two sons, Joseph Merriman Arthur, Jr. of Hurt and John Andrew Arthur and Cindy of Hurt; one brother, Stephen Arthur of Wilmington, NC; two grandchildren, Jesse Arthur and Chasity, and Angel Marie Logwood; one great-grandchild, Conor Arthur; and a special friend, Martha.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at New Bethel United Methodist Church by Pastor Steve Morris.

The family will reconvene for the burial at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery in Bedford.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at New Bethel United Methodist Church and other times will be at the residence.

The family would like to give a big thank you to Centra Hospice nurses, Lisa, Vickie, and Jetta and a special thank you to CNA, Harold for their love and care.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to New Bethel United Methodist Church Building Fund in care of Kay Scruggs, 3185 Grit Road, Hurt, VA 24563 or to your favorite charity.
