Chester……….Joan Yates Short, age 69 of Chester, formerly of Gretna died Monday, October 12, 2015 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond.
Born April 30, 1946 she was a daughter of the late Eddie Iverson Yates, Sr. and Ludie Saunders Yates. She was predeceased by a son, Phillip Morris Short, Jr.; and two brothers, Melvin Yates and Charlie Yates. Mrs. Short was a retired employee of Ennis Inc. She loved singing, dancing, cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one daughter, April Short and her wife, Shannon Levesque of Chester; two brothers, Milton Yates and his wife, Hazel of Chatham and Eddie Iverson Yates, Jr and Charlotte Panther of Chester; one sister, Geraldine Gallihugh and her husband, Roger of Culpepper; two grandchildren, Aden Levesque-Short and Payton Levesque-Short; a sister-in-law, Barbara Yates of Amelia; and a special friend who was like a son, Darryl Cox.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. L. Raymond McGarr.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
