Hurt.........Joan Pugh Moorefield, age 79 of Hurt passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her precious family and friends.

Born May 4, 1944 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene LaPrade Pugh and Fleda Tucker Pugh.  She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jordan Carroll Moorefield; one son, Ricky D. Moorefield; one grandson, Kendall Ray Moorefield; and one brother, Ellis Pugh.  Mrs. Moorefield was a long-time faithful member of New Prospect Baptist Church, and retired as an office manager with Virginia T.V. and Appliance.  She enjoyed going to the beach, family gatherings, and going to church.

She is survived by one son, Michael C. Moorefield and wife, Pamala of Hurt; one daughter-in-law, Ellen Oakes Moorefield of Hurt; one brother, Lawrence Pugh and wife, Lucille of Long Island; one sister, Nora Saunders of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Daniel Moorefield of Hurt, Paige Harris and husband, Michael of Bedford, Mason Roach and husband, Morgan of Hurt, and Ellery Haymore and husband, William of Gretna; two great-granddaughters, Allie Harris and Emma Harris; one great-granddaughter on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2024 at New Prospect Baptist Church by Rev. Brady Willis.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 727, Hurt, VA 24563, or New Prospect Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry, P. O. Box 547, Hurt, VA 24563.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all of Joan's caregivers for their love and support during her illness.
