Gretna….Carol Jean Wood Collins, age 76 of Gretna died Monday, December 11, 2017 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimers disease.
Born January 25, 1941 in Winston-Salem, NC, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Manuel Wood and Leona Dell Weatherman Wood. Mrs. Collins was a 50 year member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna where she served as Deacon, Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher and Children's Choir Director. She retired from American National Bank. Mrs. Collins enjoyed needle work, calligraphy, reading design books, crafting, and music.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Al Collins of the residence; one daughter, Deborah Ferguson and husband, J. Hatcher Ferguson, III of Rocky Mount; one brother, Terry M. Wood of Walkertown, NC; and three grandchildren, John Hatcher Ferguson, IV, Thomas Davis Ferguson and Winifred Belle Ferguson.
Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by the Rev. Dr. Roy N. Ford, Jr.
The family respectfully requests no visitors at the residence at this time. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna fellowship hall.
