Gretna…..Jean Beverly Byrd, age 74 of 104 Highland Road, Gretna died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born June 19, 1938 in Lewiston, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Silas F. Beverly and Elsie Bazemore Beverly. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Roger Kent Byrd, Sr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna, a graduate of Chowan College and a retired secretary for the Pittsylvania County Schools. Mrs. Byrd enjoyed playing golf, tennis, bridge, cooking and attending the theater with her friends. Jean also, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Bordes and husband, Jay of Atlanta; her son Ken Byrd and wife, Pat of Gretna; one brother, Richard James Beverly of Raleigh, NC; and one grandson, Kevin Byrd and wife, Lindsay of Chatham.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Jonathan Hilliard and Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
