Sandy Level……….James (J.D.) Daniel Meeks, age 87 of Sandy Level died Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born June 17, 1927 in Franklin County he was a son of the late Homer E. Meeks and Myrtle Matherly Meeks. He was predeceased by his wife, Nadine Mitchell Meeks; a son James Jeffrey Meeks; four brothers, Thurman Meeks, Billy Meeks, Aaron Meeks and Roy L. Meeks; and two sisters, Irene DeLancy and Julie Catherine Meeks. Mr. Meeks retired from the Stanley Furniture Company. He loved his grandchildren; and enjoyed gardening and sharpening his knives on his wet rock.
He is survived by three daughters, Muriel Elliott of Martinsville, Patricia Stone and her husband, Don of Moneta and Margie Bennett and her husband, Wayne of Sandy Level; three sisters, Goldie Cooper of Fieldale, Cordie Oliver of Rocky Mount and Shirley Barbour and her husband, Julian of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Anita Ware, Andrew Stone and Kim Holland Richardson; and six great-grandchildren, Daniel Stone, Desiree Stone, Montana Bowles, Riley Nuckles, Nolan Nuckles and Ava Lynn Nuckles.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Meeks Family Cemetery by Dr. Paul Stone.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Wayne Bennett in Sandy Level.
