Altavista……….James Zebedee (Zeb) Emerson, age 75 of Altavista died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born June 16, 1937 in Campbell County he was a son of the late, Zebedee Taylor Emerson and Mary Pierce Emerson. He was predeceased by two brothers, Oscar Emerson and Woodrow Emerson; two sisters, Marie Harris and Cora Lee Pope. Mr. Emerson was a member of Altavista Church of God Of Prophecy and was a retired employee of Piedmont Manufacturing. He enjoyed riding horses, woodworking and dancing.
He is survived by his son, Ricky Lin Emerson and wife, Betty of Hurt; one step-son, Wayne Hagood of Bedford; one step-daughter, Amanda Banton and husband, Gene of Rustburg; three brothers, Joe Emerson and wife, Sue of Altavista, Dennis Emerson of Altavista, and George (G.T.) Emerson and wife, Rachel of Greensboro, NC; three sisters, Corrine Morris of Altavista, Mary Wolfe of Altavista and Ella Barbour of Elizabeth City, NC; one granddaughter, Brittany Emerson of Altavista and one great-grandchild, Austin Witt.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Altavista Church of God of Prophecy by Rev. Steve Pittman and Rev. Gary Shupe. Burial will follow in the Emerson Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his sister, Corrine Morris, 908 8th Street, Altavista.
