Gretna……….James Thomas Thornton, age 78 of Gretna went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 29, 2013 at his residence.
Born July 12, 1934 in Danville, he was a son of the late Robert Thomas Thornton and Annie Lou Wyatt Thornton. He was predeceased by his wife, Lona Martin Thornton; a sister, Betty Lou Adkins; and two brothers, Bill Thornton and Sam Thornton. Mr. Thornton was a retired Navy veteran served as a Chief Petty Officer as an Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Technician. Following his retirement from the Navy he became an employee of the United States Postal Service, delivering the mail to Route 3 Gretna, Ridgeway and Ringgold. He was a farmer at heart and enjoyed sharing the produce that he harvested. Mr. Thornton was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Wood; two sisters, Mary Ann Walker and Harriet Towler; two grandchildren, William Hedrick and Carla Hedrick; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Hedrick and Roman Hedrick.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Highland Burial Park in Danville by Rev. Lynn Marstin with Military Honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
