Gretna……….James Morris Rowland, age 84 of Gretna passed away Monday, August 24, 2026 at his residence.

Born September 26, 1941 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Sam David Rowland and Hitaska Barbour Rowland.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Patty Fulk; a grandchild, Tagan Edwards; a sister, Pearlie Rowland; and a brother, Junior Rowland.  Mr. Rowland was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was a furniture maker.  He enjoyed building furniture and guitars, watching baseball and listening to Blue Grass music.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Rowland of the residence; one son, Tommy Rowland and wife, Kim of Ringgold; three daughters, Shirley Johnson of Nashville, TN, Lisa Stone of Danville and Ann Caviness of Galax; one sister, Minnie Bradner and husband, Anderson of Hurt; 13 grandchildren including two special grandchildren that he raised, Devin Caviness and Blake Evans; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Per his request there will be no public service.
