Gretna………James Alfred Ridgeway, age 88 of Gretna died Sunday, February 25, 2024 at his residence.

Born February 4, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Charlie Lee Ridgeway and Nellie America Dalton Ridgeway.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Frankie Mae Ridgeway; his second wife, Sarah Moore Ridgeway; one son, Bill Ridgeway; one stepdaughter, Gail Garrett; one grandson, Jamie Ridgeway; one brother, Kenneth Ridgeway; and two sisters, Delma Towler and Margaret Davis.  Mr. Ridgeway was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and a carpenter.  He was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church, and a former member of Altavista Moose Lodge.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Blue Grass Music, camping, and gardening.

He is survived by two sons, Fred Ridgeway and wife, Vicky of Gretna, and Roger Ridgeway and wife, Penny of Hurt; one daughter, Teresa Wade of Altavista; three stepsons, Dyke Garrett & wife, Donna, Ray Garrett, and Tinker Garrett; one stepdaughter, Karen Pillow and husband, Sean; a special friend and her daughter, Mary Fitzgerald, and Louise Garrett; and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Motley Community Church Cemetery by Rev. Bobby Brumfield.  Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.
