Hurt……….James "Jim" Orman Miles, age 93 of Hurt died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at his residence.
Born May 1, 1924 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Thomas Lander Miles and Alice Waller Miles. He was predeceased by his wife, Christine Foster Miles; a daughter, Brenda Miles Eades; three brothers, Thomas Miles, Albert Miles and Ryland Miles; and two sisters, Geneva Hall and Fannie Dalton. Mr. Miles was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and was an Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company and later worked at Blankenship Hardware. Mr. Miles was a founding member of the Grit Ruritan Club.
He is survived by two grandsons, Timothy Eades and wife, Lindsey of Glen Allen and Daniel Eades of Chatham; a son-in-law, Russell "Butch" Eades and wife, Melissa of Hurt; a special friend, Mildred Mitchell of Lynchburg, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017 at Gretna Burial Park by Rev. Wyatt Miles.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his son-in-law, Russell "Butch" Eades, 1681 Grit Road, Hurt.
