James Howard Layne
Evington…….James Howard Layne, age 90 of Evington died Friday, February 26, 2016 at his residence.
Born December 7, 1925 in Campbell County, he was a son of the late James Alex Layne and Burtchel Pribble Layne. He was predeceased by his wife, Martha Mason Layne; a daughter, Barbara Shelton Plymale; three sisters, Maggie Layne, Virginia Mason and Beatrice Hall; and a brother, Leverett Layne. Mr. Layne was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, an Army veteran of World War II and was a retired employee of BGF. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching softball, doing repair work and spending time with his family.
He is survived by one son, James "Eddie" Edward Layne and wife, Deborah of Hurt; one daughter, Sandra Plymale Worley and husband, Richard of Evington; one sister, Lois Layne Mason and husband, Edward of Forest; seven grandsons, 12 great-grandchildren, three step-granddaughters, seven step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at Salem United Methodist Church by Rev. Charles Schooler. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at Salem United Methodist Church and other times will be at the residence.
The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice and also give a special thank you to care taker, Maryland Bailey.
