Gretna…....James Luther Hunt, Sr., age 95 of Gretna died Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born November 12, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Claude David Hunt and Grace Amick Hunt.  He was predeceased by a brother, C.D. Hunt; and four sisters, Ruth Thompson, Virginia Pleasants, Agnes Hicks and Grace Catherine Chase. Mr. Hunt was a member of Anderson Memorial Methodist Church where he sang in the choir.  He was the owner/operator of Hunt Oil and Tire and taught and coached baseball and basketball at Dan River High School.  He was a Master of Masonic Lodge, Anderson Lodge 258 A.F & A.M. and former President of the Danville/Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Hunt also served on the Pittsylvania County School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Webb Hunt of the residence; one daughter, Jane Hunt Williamson of Gretna; three sons, Jimmy Hunt and wife, Jackie of Gretna, Robbie Hunt and wife, Heidi of Forest and Tommy Hunt of Gretna; four grandchildren, Morgan Creasy and husband, Heath, Ryan Hunt and wife, Afton, Melissa Kee and husband, Nick and Chasen Hunt; and five great-grandchildren, Michael, Wyatt, Madelyn, Elodie and Wesley.

Memorial services will be conducted at Anderson Memorial Methodist Church on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Miles Shields officiating.  Private interment to follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to Anderson Memorial Methodist Church.
