Obituary

Lynchburg……….James Byron Hunt, age 74 of Lynchburg, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Virginia Baptist Hospital from complications of cancer.
Born May 7, 1939 in Halifax County he was a son of the late Henry Hunt, Sr. and Mabel Ridgeway Hunt. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry Hunt, Jr. and his wife, Betty Jane Hunt and a sister Aileen Hunt all of Hurt. Raised in Cody, he joined the US Marines Corps in 1956 and served in Lebanon. Upon his return, he was employed at Burlington Mills, then Limitorque Corporation. After retiring James spent many hours as a volunteer at the Jamerson YMCA on Wyndhurst Drive in Lynchburg. He was a true animal lover and provided food and medical care for many strays, his favorite being a three legged cat he rescued, named Elvis, who spent many hours the last ten years in James lap.
He is survived by his daughter, Penny Haley and her husband, Charlie of Gretna; two grandchildren, Taylor Haley and Chandler Haley; his sister, Nancy Adams and her husband, Roy of Baltimore, MD; four nieces and their families. James loved and was truly grateful for his family, his best friend Lewis Witt, who always stood by his side, friends and many others who sent well wishes his way during his illness.
A memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Charlie S. Haley, Jr.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Monday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Charlie Haley, 402 Vaden Drive, Gretna.
The family suggests memorials be made in memory of Mr. James B. Hunt to the Rachael Horton Compassionate Care Fund, in care of Gentle Care Animal Hospital, 1365 Thomas Jefferson Road, Forest, VA 24551.
