Gretna……….Isla Tazewell Worsham, age 100 of Gretna died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in Autumn Care Nursing & Rehab in Altavista.
Born February 11, 1910 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Randolph Worsham, and Ethel Blair Worsham. Ms. Worsham was predeceased by five brothers, H. Blair Worsham, J. Norman Worsham, Paul Worsham, Frank Worsham, and John Worsham; two sisters, Ruth Miller, and Dorothy Moorefield; a nephew, Randolph Worsham; and a niece, Barbara Skorija. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna. Ms. Worsham was a graduate of Longwood College, was a school teacher for over 44 years, and retired from the Fall Church City School System. Ms Worsham enjoyed bird watching, pressing flowers, visiting with the sick, playing bridge, and dancing.
She is survived by and was devoted to her sister, Mae (Polly) Worsham of Lynchburg; five nieces, Dale Phillips, Helen Barbour, Ann Shortt, Wren Abramo, and Nancy Johndrow; and many great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2011 at Straightstone Baptist Church by Rev. Paul Woodward, and Rev. Jim Manuel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service at Straightstone Baptist Church, and other times will be at the residence of her niece and nephew, Helen and Paul Barbour, 841 Camp Branch Road, Gretna.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Pl, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
