Hurt………Irola Moon Cothran, age 89 of Hurt, died Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born December 26, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Thornton Moon and Christine Harris Moon.  She was predeceased by the father of her children, Paul Washington Cothran; one sister, Ethel Maude Cox; one brother, Edward Morgan "Billy" Moon, Sr.; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Dillard.  Irola was a member of Edge Hill Baptist Church and she retired from Klopman Mills.  She loved working puzzles, baking pound cakes, making fudge at Christmas, and knitting, especially knitting dishcloths to give to people.

She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Cothran Jones of Altavista, and Dianne Cothran Travis of Altavista and significant other, Randy Doss of Hurt; a special sister-in-law, Sharon Moon of Long Island; three grandchildren, Morgan Dillard and significant other, Peggy Andrews, Trae Travis and wife, Jennifer, and Tyler Travis; two great-grandchildren, Kennedy Mae Travis, and Kasen Trae Travis; one great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Grace Ashby; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Kay Elliott.

Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 at Edge Hill Baptist Church by Pastor Chris Brooks and Rev. Greg Hedrick.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 at Edge Hill Baptist Church and other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Dianne Cothran Travis, 119 Chimney Ridge Court, Altavista.
