Pittsville……….Irene Wilson Quarles, age 96 of Pittsville died Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Autumn Care of Altavista.

Born August 26, 1926 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late William D. Wilson, Sr. and Jane Mattox Wilson. She was also predeceased by her husband, Elton Quincy Quarles; two brothers, William D. Wilson, Jr. and Wilkie N. Wilson; and a son-in-law, James Thompson III. Mrs. Quarles was a home maker and a loving mother and grandmother. She loved fishing, being outdoors and working in her flower garden. Irene loved to talk and she never met a stranger.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Thompson of Gretna; two sons, Sammy Quarles of Danville and Johnny Quarles and wife, Bonnie of Wirtz; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Rev. Jason Andrews.
