Inez Robertson Keen, age 88, of Hurt, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, following a brief illness.

Born November 22, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late John Richard "Johnny" Robertson, Sr. and Corine Cox Robertson. She was predeceased by her husband, William Exodus Keen; five brothers, James Garland Robertson, Francis "Duck" Robertson, Al Robertson, John Richard Robertson Jr., and Roger Owen Robertson; and three sisters, Mary Ola Robertson, Joyce Reynolds, and Margaret Rowland.

She is survived by her son, Michael Owen Robertson and wife Donna, of Hurt; one brother, Oscar M. Robertson and wife Beth, of Penhook; one granddaughter, Mary-Michael Robertson, of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and quite a number of close friends in and around her community, of special note life-long friend "Brother" Lloyd Simpson.

Inez lived her life predominantly in the "Brutus" community of Hurt, Virginia, on the Robertson family farm of several generations. She was a hard-working tobacco farmer, and alongside her husband of sixty-four years, worked as diligently and as tirelessly as any man in the fields.

Inez did not have a formal nursing degree, but provided some of the best long-term nursing care in the county, giving extensive and loving care to her parents, husband, and siblings; notably more than 20 years caring for her younger brother, Roger, after he was injured in a farming accident. She often provided doctors and nurses with valuable guidance and advice as they provided medical care to Roger; she knew what he needed better than anyone.

Inez, while not a biological mother, proved to be one of the best mothers of all time to her son, providing a loving and stable home for him. She was the dependable sister, offering her siblings support when they needed it, all in a loving, mothering way.

A "Brutus" country girl, she was a gardener and canner, a lay veterinarian, a housekeeper, a cook, a lawns keeper, an overseer, one who stated her position in a straightforward and direct manner, sometimes a staunch critic, and more importantly, a good neighbor. There was never any doubt as to where she stood with respect to any issue related to her family or the operations of the beautiful farm on which she lived and worked.

Per Mrs. Keen's wishes, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
