Gretna……….Hula Mae Simpson Davis, age 79 of Gretna died Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born September 19, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Taylor Oscar Simpson and Virginia Faris Simpson.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Dan Wilbur Davis; two brothers, David Simpson and Junior Simpson; and one sister, Sandra Yeatts.  Mrs. Davis was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and retired from Sara Lee.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, canning and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, Glenn W. Davis and wife, Deidra of Boones Mill; one daughter, Jeanette Johnson and husband, Gary of Gretna; two sisters, Elma Elixson of Pelham, NC, and Debra Barbour of Gretna; one brother, Larry R. Simpson of Gretna; five grandsons, Michael Davis, Brian Davis, Aaron Davis, Craig Johnson and Jared Johnson; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. R.G. Rowland.  Burial will follow in the Rowland Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Gary Johnson, 804 Cedar Road, Gretna.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557 or to the Virginia Sheriffs Association, 901 East Byrd Street, Suite 1301, Richmond, VA 23219 memo Pittsylvania County Sheriffs Office.
