Pittsville……….Alvin Hubert Strickland, age 70 of Pittsville died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at his residence.
Born October 10, 1943 in Halifax County he was a son of the late Alvin O. Strickland and Susie McGregor Strickland. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Charlie Saunders; and a grandson, Marvin Hubert Strickland, Jr. Mr. Strickland was a former employee with RACO; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Redd Strickland of Java; four sons, Mark Strickland of Java, Marvin Strickland and his wife, Tammy of Gretna, Glenn Strickland and his wife, Angie of Gretna, and Doc Strickland and his fiancée, Heather of Java; one daughter, Bobbi Jo Saunders and her fiancé, Shane of Java; two sisters, Betty George and her husband, J.W. of Java, and Linda Wilmoth and her husband, Shorty of Java; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two step grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery by Rev. Mike McDowell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his wife, Edna Strickland, 3877 Java Road, Java, VA.
