Gretna…..Hubert Cole Saunders, age 77 of Gretna died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born June 12, 1937 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Risk Craig Saunders and Myrtle Gay Divers Saunders. Mr. Saunders was predeceased by his wife, Nell Simpson Saunders; one brother, Melvin Saunders; and one sister, Jewell Rowland. He was a member of Summersett Baptist Church and retired from Klopman after 52 years of service. He loved watching baseball; cooking, especially biscuits; and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by one son, Timothy Scott Saunders of Gretna; two daughters, Tammy Mitchell and her husband, Scott of Gretna and Sheila Rice and her husband, Tony, Sr. of Gretna; one brother, Dale Saunders of Altavista; one sister, Louise Brumfield of Pittsville; five grandchildren, Kristin Hull & her husband, David, Tony Rice, Jr., Justin Mitchell, Hanna Mitchell, and Brayden Saunders; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Summersett Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Andrews and Rev. Bobby Brumfield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Scott Mitchell, 129 Brights Road, Gretna.
