Gretna…….Howard Thomas Midkiff, age 96 of Gretna died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Gretna Heath and Rehab Center
Born May 21, 1915 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late James Walton Midkiff, Sr. and Hester Robertson Midkiff. He was predeceased by his wife, Cecile Virginia Willis Midkiff; a son, Howard Thomas (Tommy) Midkiff, Jr.; a grandson, Howard Scott Tyler; a son-in-law, Don L. Tyler, Sr.; five brothers; and five sisters. Mr. Midkiff was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna, and was an employee with Peoples Mutual Telephone Company for 45 years. He enjoyed feeding and caring for birds, studying history, photography, gardening, flowers, and woodworking.
He is survived by one son, David W. Midkiff of Gretna; one daughter, Dell M. Tyler of Gretna; one brother, William Midkiff, Sr. and his wife, Millie of Hurt; three grandchildren, Don Loring Tyler, Jr. and his wife JoAnn, Lisa Tyler, and David Thomas Midkiff and his wife, Kathryn; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Tyler, Charles Tyler, Catherine Tyler, and Lani Midkiff; and two sisters-in-law, and a brother-on-law.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Jonathan Hilliard and Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna and other times will be at the residence of his daughter, Dell M. Tyler, 320 Vaden Drive, Gretna.
