Gretna……..Hilda Adkins Smith, age 80 of Gretna died Monday, December 29, 2014 at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.
Born December 17, 1934 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Oscar Edmond Adkins and Ethel Towler Adkins. She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis Lee Smith; a daughter, Gale Doss; a grandson, Jonathan Doss; two brothers, Ray Adkins and Roy Douglas Adkins; and two sisters, Virginia Adkins and Edna Tuck. Mrs. Smith was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and was a home maker. She loved church, God and family. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, cross stitching, sewing, puzzles and watching certain TV programs.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Smith and his wife, Sylvia of Gretna; three daughters, Debra Jamerson and her husband, Randy of Penhook, Jettie Farmer and her husband, Ronnie of Gretna, and Phyllis Osborne and her husband, Steve of Chatham; one brother, Roney Adkins of Gretna; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Sandy Level Baptist Church by Dr. Kendell Smith. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends one prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Sandy Level Baptist Church and other times will be at the residence.
The family would like to thank all the workers for the hospice care that Mrs. Smith received.
