Hurt……….Herbert "Buck" Garland Lanier, age 64 of Hurt died on the morning of Monday, March 7, 2016 peacefully at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Born March 4, 1952 in Lynchburg he was a son of Janie Reynolds Lanier of Hurt and the late Herbert Quention Lanier. Mr. Lanier graduated from Altavista High School in 1972 where he was a member of the track and football team. After high school Herbert became a man of many talents and trades, one being the rodeo industry. Herbert helped found The True Grit Rodeo Company, and he continued to follow and support the rodeo industry with his son, Daniel Lanier, who carries on the dream and passion. In Herbert's free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, floating the river, farming, wood carving, wood burning, bird watching and anything else that involved being outdoors and in nature. One of Herbert's biggest highlights was his grandson, Quenton, who he loved very much.
Mr. Lanier will be missed by many, and in addition to his mother he is survived by one son, Daniel Lanier and wife, Erin of Hurt; one grandson, Quenton Lanier; one step-son Matt Arthur; one "sister", Dalphine Waller; his caregivers, Carmen Irby and Destiny Irby; his partner in crime, Robert Dunn; and several teammates, rodeo family and friends that have stood by him through it all.
Memorial services will be held 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church by Pastor Tim Lane.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Erin Lanier.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church.
