Herbert William Crews, 91, of Hurt passed away September 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. In his last weeks, family and friends surrounded him.

He was born December 22, 1930, in Pittsylvania County. The youngest son of Robert Thomas Crews and Rosa Short Crews. He was the husband of the late Leona Swain Crews. Mr. Crews was a member of the Hurt United Methodist Church. One of his biggest joys was attending church. He considered many in the congregation as family. Herbert retired from BGF. At his retirement party many people commented on his love of physical labor and his strong work ethic. Retirement did not slow him down. He took pride in his vegetable garden and lawn. He enjoyed visiting people in the local nursing homes and spending time with family.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Queener and two wonderful granddaughters, Abbie, and Amy Queener. They were his biggest joy.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Giles Crews, Clarence Crews, James Crews, and Clyde Crews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Tucker, and Helen Fisher.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Hurt United Methodist Church by Rev. Jim Brown with interment to follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association.
