Herbert William Cocke, 78, of 102 Colbert Street, Gretna, Va., died on Friday, April 2, 2010, at Gretna Health and Rehab Center. Born on June 7, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Oral West Cocke Sr. and Lillian Gammon Cocke Davis. He was predeceased by a brother, Oral West Cocke Jr. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of American Legion Post #232, and a member of VFW Post #4165 where he served as a member of the Honor Guard. He was retired from Gretna Tire and Recapping Company. He is survived by his wife, Iris Ramsey Cocke, of the residence; a daughter, Laura Cocke Bond and husband, Brian, of Roanoke; a sister, Barbara Jean Davidson and husband, Billy, of Stuarts Draft; and a grandson, Logan Bond. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, 2010, at ColbertMoran Chapel by Lee Ashley, Minister, and Lory Brafford, Minister. Burial with Military Honors by VFW Post #4165 will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
