Herbert William Cocke

GRETNA-Herbert William Cocke, age 78 of 102 Colbert Street, Gretna, died Friday, April 2, 2010 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born June 7, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Oral West Cocke, Sr., and Lillian Gammon Cocke Davis. He was predeceased by a brother, Oral West Cocke, Jr. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of American Legion Post 232, and a member of VFW Post 4165 where he served as a member of the Honor Guard. He was retired from Gretna Tire and Recapping Co.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Ramsey Cocke of the residence; a daughter, Laura Cocke Bond and husband, Brian of Roanoke; a sister, Barbara Jean Davidson and husband, Billy of Stuarts Draft; and a grandson, Logan Bond.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Lee Ashley, Minister, and Lory Brafford, Minister. Burial with military honors by VFW Post 4165 will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
