Gretna……Herbert Clay, age 71 of Gretna, died Thursday, June 30, 2022 at his residence.

Born October 4, 1950 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late Swanson Roland Clay, Sr. and Madeline Waller Clay.  He was predeceased by a sister, Vernelle Johns.  Mr. Clay retired from Abbott Laboratories.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family and special pet, "Emmy Lou."

He is survived by his wife, Peggy T. Clay of the residence; one son, Jason H. Clay and wife, Stephanie of Mooresville, NC; one daughter, Kimberly McKeldin and husband, Nathan of Leesville; one brother, Swanson Clay, Jr. and wife, Sarah of Roxboro, NC; one sister, Marjorie Seamster and husband, Jimmy of Chatham; and three grandchildren, Abigail McKeldin, Charlotte Clay, and Cooper Clay.

Due to COVID a private funeral service will be conducted Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Lynn Marstin.

Mr. Clay will be available for public viewing up until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

The family asks that anyone that is invited to attend the private funeral service to wear a mask.
