Gretna………Herbert Noel Barker, age 95 of Gretna died Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at his residence.

Born October 22, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland Barker and Mattie Pearl Robertson Barker.  He was predeceased by three sisters, Arlene Belderes, Becky Rowland, and Dorothy David; and three brothers, Buford Barker, Onyx Barker, and Owen Barker.  Mr. Barker was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna and an Army Veteran of World War II.  He was a former Virginia State Trooper and a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service.  He was a member of the American Legion and he was a member of the Brushy Mountain Skeet Club for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Hines Barker of the residence; two sisters, Margaret Clay and husband, Ronald of Hurt, and Ruby Shelton and husband, Otha of Pittsville; two sisters-in-law, Sue Barker, and Patsy Barker; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Bob Ballance.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
